Craneo-Sacral Therapy

A very gentle yet effective form of manual therapy. It was developed in the 1900s by an American Osteopath Dr. William Sutherland. Craneo-Sacral therapy works with the bodys natural capacity to self regulate. It involves two main aspects, ones that is concern with enhancing the bodys underlying vitality and the second is the release of restrictions to free the distribution of this vitality throughout the body. This vitality manifests though the very gentle movement of the Craneo-Sacral system, which involves the cranium its membranes and the cerebrospinal fluids (CSF). In a regular session the client will lay in the treatment couch fully clothed and the therapist will be making contact by gently placing the hands in the body to tuning in. This light contact may be taken up in the cranium, sacrum, shoulders, feet and other parts of the body if appropriate. The therapist palpates to identify movements, patters or restrictions and follows these movements until points of resistance are encountered and release can occur. Treatment is usually experienced as a profound relaxation that may involve the person physically, mentally and emotionally. Due to its gentle approach many people can benefit from Craneo-Sacral therapy, and because it treats the whole person it can positive influence all health aspect.
